Switch Integration Requirements

Introduction

Communication Manager Messaging uses information from the Communication Manager software to answer telephone calls, and also sends information back to the Communication Manager software. Depending on the information received, the messaging software plays a greeting, provides an automated attendant, permits a subscriber to retrieve messages, or directs unanswered incoming telephone calls to the correct mailbox.

Shared Processor for Communication Manager Messaging server and Communication Manager server

Processor is shared between Communication Manager Messaging offered as an embedded flavor and Communication Manager as they reside on the same server. Now, the messaging software connects to the Communication Manager software by means of SIP protocol.

Hunt Group Still Necessary

The logic of voice ports, remains the same. This logic means that a messaging hunt group must still be defined with 4 or 8 virtual voice ports and extension numbers. Other switch administration tasks that are associated with proper hunt group functions, such as creating COR, COS, and coverage paths, are also required. The Communication Manager server and messaging software applications send control messages to each other by means of SIP protocol over an IP Trunk. Communication Manager Messaging supports up to 6,000 mailboxes on an S8800 or S8510 Server.

International Switch Tone Parameters

The messaging saoftware supports many of the same country switch tone parameter sets established for the Communication Manager server. The countries for which country-specific parameters are established are as follows:
